NOTICE The Lee-Russell Council of Governments (Lee-Russell Public Transit) is applying to the Alabama Department of Transportation for a grant to provide Capital assistance grant under 49 U.S.C. Section 5307 of the Federal Transit Laws, as codified. The grant will provide financial assistance for public transportation service for the residents of Phenix City during FY 2013. The service currently operates Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; all residents, including wheelchair users, must schedule service two-weeks to one business day in advance. Fares are $1.00 per one-way trip; elderly and handicapped may ride for $.50 per one-way trip; children under 5 ride free. A para-transit service is available for those who qualify for $2.00 per one-way trip. The capital grant will provide financial assistance for maintenance for the Phenix City Express (PEX) public transportation service during FY 2013. Copies of the detailed service description, proposed changes, and project budget may be obtained at the Lee-Russell Council of Governments office, 2207 Gateway Drive, Opelika, AL between 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. A public hearing will be held on August 15, 2012, at 3:00PM in the Conference Room at the Lee-Russell Council of Governments, office for public comment. This notice shall constitute the final program of projects for the Lee-Russell Council of Governments unless the scope of the project changes as a result of input gathered during the public hearing.
