PUBLIC NOTICE

NOTICE is hereby given to the public to advise interested citizens that the Terrell County School District has made a submission to the Attorney General of the United States under Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, 79 Stat. 437, as amended, seeking preclearance for a special election to be held on November 6, 2012. The purpose of the special election is to seek approval for the continuation of a sales and use tax for education in the amount of 1% for five years, the proceeds of which will be used for school capital outlay purposes, and to seek approval of the issuance of general obligation debt of the Terrell County School District in the principal amount of up to $4,280,000, a portion of which will be repayable from the proceeds of the aforesaid sales and use tax, for the purpose of funding such portions of the school capital outlay projects as may be acquired, constructed and equipped with the proceeds of general obligation debt.

A complete duplicate copy of the submission is available for public inspection during normal business hours at the offices of the Terrell County School District located at 955 Forrester Drive, Dawson, GA 39842.

Any interested person or group may send the Attorney General information they may have as to whether or not this change has a discriminatory purpose or effect.

Communications may be in the form of a letter stating the name, address and telephone number of the individual or group and should be mailed to Chief, Voting Section, Civil Rights Division, Room 7254 - NWB, Department of Justice, 950 Pennsylvania Ave., N.W., Washington, DC 20530. The envelope and first page should be marked: Comment under Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act.
